Dólmenes de Antequera Dolmens of Antequera
Megalithic legacy
The Antequera Dolmens Site is one of the most impressive megalithic complexes in Europe. Located in the city of Antequera, in the province of Malaga, it consists of the prehistoric monuments of Menga, Viera, and El Romeral, built more than four thousand years ago and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
- Menga Dolmen: A megalithic monument built around 2500 BC and considered one of the largest dolmens in Europe. It stands out for its enormous stone slabs and its orientation towards the Peña de los Enamorados.
- Dolmen of Viera: A passage grave dating from approximately 3000 BC. Its elongated structure leads to a small burial chamber and is oriented towards the sunrise during the equinoxes.
- Tholos de El Romeral: A prehistoric funerary monument built around 1800 BC with a circular chamber covered by a false stone dome, characteristic of tholos-type constructions.
