Frigiliana
Just like in a story
Frigiliana is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia and one of the hidden gems of the inland region of the eastern Costa del Sol. Located just a few kilometers from the coast and the town of Nerja, this charming white village stands out for its perfectly preserved historic center, its narrow cobblestone streets, and its whitewashed houses decorated with colorful flowers.
The old quarter, known as Barribarto, retains its original Moorish layout with steep alleyways, stairways, and small squares that invite visitors to stroll and discover charming hidden corners. From many of its viewpoints, you can enjoy spectacular views of the mountains of the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara, and Alhama Natural Park and the Mediterranean Sea.
Among its most iconic sites are the Palace of the Counts of Frigiliana, known as El Ingenio—the only cane sugar factory in Europe—the Church of San Antonio de Padua, and the ceramic plaques that recount the history of the 16th-century Moorish rebellion.
In addition to its historical heritage, Frigiliana is famous for its traditional cuisine, its craft shops, and its cultural festivals, such as the Festival of the Three Cultures, which celebrates the historical coexistence of Christians, Muslims, and Jews.
